I was right about this trail, after a short recce I figured that we would spend most of our times in deciduous woods, with the occasional coastal redwood grove. As much as I love eucalyptus, it’s sometimes nice to get to something that feels more real California. Still, all the trees were short, so I don’t know if that’s because of lumber harvesting or a fire back in the 1800s.
Since the trail is called Long Ridge I figured we would get a bit of a view, and I was right, we broke out onto open grassland at the highest points and were rewarded with an ocean view (small patch on the skyline) and ridge after ridge of forest covered hills receding from deep green to a hazy blue of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Thanks to my companions for good conversation, making the hike more enjoyable.
